Florida Atlantic University/Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Marine Science Partnership
Ft. Pierce, Florida

PROJECT SPECIFICS

Owner:  Florida Atlantic University/Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute

Architect:  Schwab, Twitty & Hanser

Project Scope:

In November 2006, James A. Cummings, Inc., along with delegates from Florida Atlantic University and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, proudly celebrated the grand opening and dedication of the new marine science building. This state-of-the-art facility, located at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution in Ft. Pierce is a joint use facility for Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution and Florida Atlantic University students. The project received $11 million in state appropriations and includes laboratories and supporting infrastructure to be used primarily in the areas of biology and chemistry. This 40,000 square foot joint use facility will provide classes in marine biology, marine science, marine biotechnology, natural resources and environmental education for graduate and undergraduate students. In addition, the building houses video-conferencing equipped meeting rooms.

"I was pleased throughout the construction process with the attention to detail, efficiency, and cooperative spirit of all of the Cummings employees. You maintained the schedule and accomplished a seamless transition.  All of you have done whatever it took to help us with the project – from the groundbreaking to the dedication and all of the little things in between. I hope that we will work together again in the future."
