Miami Shores Charter School
Miami Shores, Florida

PROJECT SPECIFICS

Owner:  Village of Miami Shores

Architect:  Spillis Candela & Partners

Project Scope:

The new school consists of three buildings on a five acre campus including a 5,300 square foot media center, an 8,000 square foot cafeteria, and a 33,000 square foot, two story classroom building, constructed of tilt-up concrete panels with precast elevated floor and roof structures. Facilities include state-of-the-art science labs and media center, music education, a dining area, and outdoor physical education court.

The new school opened on schedule prior to the start of the 2005-2006 school year on land formerly occupied by the Biscayne Kennel Club, which closed in 1995. The new campus expands the Village’s existing charter middle school to include all grades six through twelve. The charter middle school was previously operating entirely in portable classrooms one block from the site of the new campus.

James A. Cummings, Inc. helped to make the project a reality by incorporating value engineering and sales tax savings which saved the Owner over 15% off of the total project cost. The project was completed in only seven months under the CM at Risk delivery system.
