James A. Cummings, Inc. Awarded New High School Project

Orange County Public Schools recently selected James A. Cummings, Inc. as the Construction Manager to build the New Timber Creek/University High School Relief Project. Designed by Schenkel Shultz Architecture, this project has a budget of $74 million and consists of a one and two-story high school design of 10 buildings housing administration, classrooms, art and music rooms, kitchen, multi-purpose and dining areas, auditorium and gymnasium.

Platinum! That's the LEED certification that Florida Atlantic University is striving to achieve for their new College of Engineering Computer Science Building. James A. Cummings, Inc. has recently been selected as the Construction Manager to build this 120,000 square foot building at FAU's Boca Raton Campus. It will consist of a visitor center, engineering electronic library & student center, student design & innovation center, engineering conference room and studio, distance learning classrooms and offices.

John Church and Christian Guarneri become LEED Accredited Professionals

Congratulations to John Church, Vice President and Christian Guarneri, Project Manager, on becoming LEED Accredited Professionals. In January 2007, 44 of our employees attended a day and half seminar given by Dr. Charles Kibert, a professor at the University of Florida's M.E. Rinker Sr. School of Building Construction, on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The focus of the seminar was to educate the audience on the importance of green building and green design within our industry. This seminar also prepares our employees to take the LEED Accreditation exam.

James A. Cummings, Inc. became a Charter Member of the General's Club of the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County. Along with other contractors, this group presented a check in the amount of $222,000 to the Boys & Girls Club at their annual dinner held on January 13, 2007. The General's Club will form subcommittees to attract and encourage youngsters to become members of the construction industry.

The Wolf Lake Middle/Elementary School Campus which is 265,770 s.f. was ranked #11 and South Creek Middle School which is 156,162 s.f. was ranked #21.

Dedication Ceremony held for new Track and Field Facility

On January 10, 2007, Florida Atlantic University held a dedication ceremony for their new Track and Field Facility. This project marks the 10th facility we've built for the University. The new track, which was built on the site of the previous track includes a state-of-the-art synthetic track surface, an artificial turf field surface and facilities for all field events.

Chrissy Pollack promoted to Accounting Manager

Chrissy Pollack has recently been promoted to Accounting Manager for James A. Cummings, Inc. She will continue to supervise accounts payables, receivables, and payroll in addition to providing financial statement assistance. Chrissy has been with Cummings since 1992 and has been instrumental in implementing effective controls in the Accounting Department.

Jim Cummings Chairs United Way's 2006-2007 Campaign

Jim Cummings has been selected as United Way's 2006-2007 Campaign Chair for all of Broward County. Jim has established a goal of $14 million. He has organized the community into subgroups (the Cabinet) headed by other influential business men and women to help meet this goal. Approximately $12 million has been raised with the campaign continuing until May 2007. Jim is confident the goal will be reached.
