Good Neighbor Policy

We believe in being "good neighbors." Following a site and project evaluation, we make the following suggestions to the owner regarding special attention for their community as well as the environment:

Safety of children – We secure and fence all our sites to discourage curious "minds" from walking through unfinished hardhat areas and experimenting with dangerous equipment.

Parent/community communication – For schools and other public projects, we create newsletters or press releases to keep parents, students and interested citizens informed about construction schedules.

Environmental issues – When needed, we walk the site to identify areas that need to be circumvented or treated with care.

Community Commitment

Broward County Homeless Assistance Center

In addition to contributions of time and money, we also build facilities at cost for non-profit and educational organizations. We built the Homeless Assistance Center in Broward County for no fee. We encouraged our subcontractors to contribute their time and talent and saved the Center an additional $1.5 million.

City Arts Factory

In addition, we renovated the second floor of the City Arts Factory building in Downtown Orlando including a theater and convention space consisting of a catering area, a donated Anheuser Busch lounge area and performing art and event space.

We believe there’s no better way to spend our money than to invest in today’s youth to help them become tomorrow’s leaders. We currently contribute to the University of Florida Rinker School of Building Construction scholarship.

Providing for the future of the Construction Industry

Cummings has an established Mentor-Protégé Program to provide opportunities for subcontractors to hone their business skills through close work with key Cummings personnel, other business leaders and professional organizations in monthly one-on-one meetings. Commitment to the Mentor Protégé Program comes from the top, meaning the Chief Executive Officer of our company participates in the meetings, along with our Chief Financial Officer, Vice Presidents, estimators, and others who can share technical, business acumen to enhance the ability of our protégés to compete in the highly competitive construction market.

Cummings’ Mentor Protégé Program offers protégés the opportunities to increase their net worth, access to credit and capital, improve management practices, increase their abilities to deal with day-to-day issues by tapping into the experiences of Cummings staff, and to increase the ability to address the pitfalls so prevalent in the construction industry. There are measurable goals and achievements which are monitored and graduation from the Program results in our Protégés going to the next step in growing their business.

Cummings believes so strongly in the Mentor Protégé concept, we helped establish a Mentor Protégé Program with the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, the first for the University. The comprehensive program includes management and technical assistance, financial assistance and bonding assistance to grow small business enterprises within the construction industry at the University of Florida.
